Personally, I take in a very modest amount of coffee as my body handles it differently than some. I get a pep in my step initially, but often that pep is unbalanced and floaty and during the inevitable crash my digestion gets a bit wonky... to say the least. Thankfully I have herbal teas to help me through, such as an old favorite Roastaroma by Celestial Seasonings, which has been my sidekick for quite some time now (it's nutty and full of a sweetly balanced bitter flavor just like my old pal coffee!) But, I recently tried this herbal espresso latte, and it's now my current favorite!
The PDX Acupuncture Test Kitchen was full of the aroma of roasted cinnamon, chicory and barley this week as we tried out our favorite recipe for the Herbal Espresso Blend. We prepared the espresso in a teabag, let it steep for 3-4 minutes, poured steamed milk over it, added yummy molasses or honey for sweetness and topped the lovely drink with warming cinnamon. Delish!

All ingredients are organic and most are wild crafted as well. This is a caffeine free recipe. If you prefer a little caffeine, we are happy to add a cocoa bean or two for you.
Instructions: Place all ingredients in a coffee grinder and grind up.. (tip! If you are using a coffee maker grind more coarse, if you are putting in a tea bag grind fine), place 2-3 tablespoons in a tea bag and seal, or add like coffee to a coffee maker. You should use enough water so that you will have about two shots worth of liquid. Remove teabag, add steamed milk and sweetener. Top with cinnamon, nutmeg or an anise star. Enjoy the goodness!
